Gilbert "Gil" Mros
Gilbert "Gil" Mros
Army veteran and active community volunteer who helped design the Apollo Command Module
I would say aim high, but within realistic goals. Try to pick out something you like to do and try for it. Be honest with yourself and follow your heart.
Aim High!
Honoring Gilbert "Gil" Mros
I was born in Wyandotte, Michigan
In a twenty by twenty foot house,
with a good father and mother
We were poor but never did without
Aim high!
Mom's parents came from Germany
Father's parents came from Pland
My mother's mother got mad
when she married
Someone who was not German
Aim high!
As a child I listened to Buck Rogers
And Flash Gordon way before their time
On a spaceship into the heavens
I would dream one day I would fly
Aim high!
I grew up along the Detroit River
Looking out towards the other side
Watching the big boats carry
Iron ore to the Canadian line
Aim high!
There was a war from the time I remember
War has been a part of life
Like summer, fall, spring, and winter
May your dreams always take flight
Aim high!
ROTC all through college
Joined the Army after that
To Honeywell to help build Apollo
To circle the moon and come back
Aim high!
Met my wife and got married
Had two kids in Columbia Heights
Designed plague to honor veterans
Who for freedom gave their lives
Aim high!
Like James Labelle a WWII Hero
Who threw himself on a grenade
At Iwo Jima to save his buddies
We still honor him today
Aim high!
Pick up trash and plant flowers
Spread much and plant trees
Where would we be without each other
Taking pride in community
Aim high!
Aim high! I aim high! Aim high! Aim high! Aim high!
