The Inside Scoop
From Superintendent Debra Bowers
Vol. 2 No. 14
Cedar Manor Intermediate Center will host a community celebration honoring four community elders on December 4, 2008, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The celebration will feature Elder Wisdom, Children's Song an educational process developed by America's Troubadour and Smithsonian Folkways Recording Artist and St. Louis Park Graduate Larry Long. The process honors history and celebrates diversity through writing and performing songs.
Long has been working with students at Cedar Manor to collectively write songs and gather recitations which honor the life stories of the following community elders Mr. Gene Carr, WWII Veteran; Mrs. Zlata Mucic', St Louis Park resident and parent, immigrant from Bosnia; Mr. Richard Rasmussen, St Louis Park resident, parent, grandfather, and Native American; and Ms. Kari Miller, Susan Lindgren Teacher, who also provides service to women and families in Uganda.
